Keynote Speech: Dealing with data: challenges and risks in measuring corruption 

Professor Paul Heywood is Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Sir Francis Hill Professor of European Politics at the University of Nottingham.

He graduated with an MA in Politics (First Class) from the University of Edinburgh, then did postgraduate studies in Madrid and at the LSE, from where he received his MSc(Econ) and PhD (Politics). Before joining Nottingham, he taught at the University of Glasgow and at the University of London. He also worked for the Economist Intelligence Unit, London (1989-93). He has been a member of the ESRC Research Grants Board (2001-05) and was Dean of the University of Nottingham Graduate School from 2003-07.  He is currently Director of the University of Nottingham’s ESRC Doctoral Training Centre, which supports research students in the social sciences.  Between 2003 and 2009 he was co-editor of the international journal Government and Opposition, and is currently Chair of the Board of Directors.Professor Heywood is author, co-author or editor of fourteen books and more than eighty journal articles and book chapters. His research focuses on political corruption, institutional design and state capacity in contemporary Europe. In 2006, he was appointed Adjunct Professor at the University of Hunan (China), where he is Senior Adviser to the Center for Clean Governance. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (elected 2002), and an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences (elected 2012).

Professor Dimitrios Buhalis


Professor Dimitrios Buhalis is a Strategic Management and Marketing expert with specialisation in Technology and Tourism. He is Established Chair in Tourism and Deputy Director of the International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research (ICTHR) Director of the eTourismLab and Director of the John Kent Institute in Tourism at the School of Tourism,  Bournemouth University and Professorial Observer at the Bournemouth University Senate. Professor Buhalis is leading eTourism research and is working with the Bournemouth team for introducing technology in all aspects of tourism research and teaching. In 2009 he led Bournemouth University successfully through the UNWTO.TedQual Certification Process and is the BU representative to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation. In recognition of his contribution, he was elected in August 2009, as a member of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism. In April 2010, Dimitrios was elected President of International Federation for Information Technologies in Travel and Tourism (IFITT).   

Dr Dimitrios Buhalis was previously Programme Leader MSc in Tourism Marketing, Leader of eTourism Research, Reader in Business Information Management at the School of ManagementUniversity of Surrey and elected member of the University Senate (2003-2007). Until September he was also Course Leader, MSc in eTourism and Director of the Centre for eTourism Research (CeTR). Dimitrios has also been Adjunct Professor at the MBA in Hospitality Management at the IMHI (Cornell University-Ecole Superieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales ESSEC) in Paris, Visiting Professor at School of Hotel and Tourism Management at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Chinaand Professor Associado at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. He has been teaching tourism related subjects in more than 30 Universities around the world. He is regarded as an expert in the impacts of ICTs in the tourism industry and eTourism, the management of tourism distribution channels as well as strategic tourism marketing and management. 
 

 

He has written or co-edited a total of 14 books, including two books on the Future of Tourism, namely: Tourism Business Frontiers, Tourism Management Dynamics published by Butterworth-Heinemann, eTourism Case Studies, published by Butterworth as well as eTourism: Strategic Information Technology for Tourism published by Pearson (Prentice Hall/Financial Times) and Tourism Distribution Channels (Thomson), Managing alliances in the global hospitality and tourism industry as well as  a series of three books on IT and Tourism. He has also published more than 80 articles in scholarly journals, books, conference proceedings and consultancy reports.

Dr. Erdogan H. Ekiz  

Associate Professor,

 

King Abdulaziz University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Erdogan H. Ekiz is an Associate Professor in King Abdulaziz University, Tourism Institute, Department of Hotel & Hospitality Management, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dr. Ekiz completed his Ph.D. on tourism and hospitality management to the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He had a B.Sc. on tourism and hotel management and a M.B.A. in services marketing from Eastern Mediterranean University in North Cyprus. He is a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) from American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute and has over 13 years of teaching experience in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Cyprus, Turkey, Malaysia and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is co-founder and managing editor of an international journal (International Journal of Management Perspectives) which links the academia to the tourism and hospitality industry. His expertise includes: service failure, consumer complaining behavior, tourist behavior and culture. He has over 130 published journal articles, book chapters and conference papers. His papers have appeared in respected refereed journals such as: International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Managing Service Quality: An International Journal, Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing, Scandinavian Journal Hospitality and Tourism, Journal of Hospitality Marketing and Management, Tourism Analysis, etc.

He has successfully completed several consultancy projects with major companies in the industry and still working on a dozen of grants and consultation projects for both government and private sector. Dr. Ekiz has wide range of hands-on management experience within the sector, from fast food to 5 star hotels.
